Summer BBQ Raises Over £1000 for Maggies Cancer Care Charity

The club’s annual summer BBQ attracted over 50 members and guests to the Stables at St John, Adel. A grand time was had by all in the raising of £1050 through ticket, raffle, book and bar sales.

The barbecue itself was prepared by Wilkinson’s butcher, Paul, and was complemented by a fine array of salads, followed by desserts of fruit pies and trifles provided by club members and their partners. Draft beer was kindly donated by Hugh Kirby of the Cross Keys pub near Halifax.

Maggie’s and Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust are working together to build, in the grounds of St James’s Hospital, a unit which will provide practical, emotional and social support for people with cancer. Work on the building is scheduled to start before the end of the year.
