Our new President’s year kicked off with a BBQ and afternoon treat. It was fortunate as we had a break in the showery weather and basked in glorious sunshine that he had ordered. Only 6 miles away they were subjected to heavy rain.
The event was held in the lovely garden of Rtn Nick Pinches and his wife Gill. Nick is the out going president and we suspect he and Gill are breathing a sigh of relief now his term has ended
We had an excellent meal organised in part by Rtn Collette Crossen.. Even Iain Farqharson-Welch, President Elect, and main organiser put his scouting skills to the test in steering the erection and dismantling of gazebos and tables. He even found time to make an excellent summer fruit pudding.
The aim of the event was to enjoy ourselves with friends but also to raise money for the Sylvia Wright Appeal. The club hopes to raise £6000 with a few future events to attract a greater grant from RIBI. This will allow kitchens to be rebuilt at the Hospital and deaf school that Sylvia has set up and run in India from 1989. All donations are welcome. Thanks are due to Philip and Martin in running the raffle and to members who generously donated prizes.
