At our meeting on 1 March, Tracey Parle gave an inspiring talk on the work of the Leeds based charity Zarach, (Hebrew for “Let there be light”). Click here

Bex Wilson, a young teacher at a Leeds inner city school, became aware that her pupils’ education was suffering because some were always tired. Investigation showed that many families were so poor that the children had no beds, many having to sleep on the floor, on cushions or in the bath.
Initially Bex, assisted by her father Mark, delivered beds at her own expense. She has now developed a charity which has provided 1,400 beds, duvets and sheets since 2018. Zarach now wishes to do for beds what Marcus Rashford did for school meals and we are asked to sign their petition. The aim is 100,000 signatories for discussion in parliament.
All Rotary Clubs in Leeds are supporting Zarach. We presented Tracey with a cheque for £1,000  and our President Elect Julia presented her with 28 brightly coloured knitted teddies to give to the children.
