A record £1,562 was collected on Saturday 20 December at our annual Santa & Carols charity collection at Sainsbury’s, Moortown.
President Chris thanks all those members who collected on Saturday. It was mostly fine and not too cold. It was good to see Brendan back in the Santa suit which was originally tailored for him. And as for Iain, more than one child asked if he was the real Santa!
Our friends shopping were in characteristically generous form and the result, just £8 more than last year which itself was a new record. The money raised will be shared between St Gemma’s, Wheatfields, Caring For Life, St George’s Crypt and Leeds Foodbanks. When people heard that Leeds Foodbanks, were also benefiting, some responded with a trolley full of food which will no doubt be gratefully received.
George and Joyce Shepheard, aided by Fred and Joan Archenhold counted the money and the whole event was masterminded by Sheila and Bernard Williams. Our thanks are also due to their son, without whose Karaoke machine it would have been a considerably less jovial affair.
