The annual Bridge drive, held on Monday, 7th March, in St Giles Church Hall, Bramhope, and organised by the Rotarians of the Headingley Club, and their wives, was held in aid of the victims hit by flooding in Yorkshire over the Christmas period. Many of those victims will take months or years to get back to their normal lives. Sixty four players took part paying £10 each, which included lunch and tea. The eventual winners were Geoff Fox and Pran Bhattacharyya and the runners-up Roger and Valerie Brook. The total sum raised was £875.
After the event, a vote of thanks was given to Rotarian, Nick Pinches, for his highly efficient organisation. Thanks also went for the marvellous buffet lunch and tea, provided by Gill Pinches and Connie Hafseth, fully supported by Pam Woodhead, Barbara Crowther, Kath Farquharson-Welsh, Marion Walbank and Margaret Coles.
Margaret Williams also did a magnificent job selling tickets before the event. Lily’s flower shop in Breary Lane, Bramhope kindly donated vouchers for the winners. Members of the Rotary Club of Headingley gave their usual full support during the event, preparing the hall, setting out the lunch and tea, providing wine and soft drinks for purchase, prizes for the raffle and generally trying to make themselves useful and even agreeable. Finally they helped to clear up.
Next year’s event will be held on Monday, 13th March, 2017
