Return to Who we are

A Headingley Rotarian

Members enjoy weekly lunchtime meetings, which are usually followed by a short talk from a visiting speaker and cover a wide range of topical subjects, sometimes associated with our special projects.

The Rotary motto ‘We’re for Communities’ expresses in a nutshell what our charitable activities are about, at local, national and international levels.  Within the Club, the ethos is one of ‘Service above Self’, and all members are encouraged to participate in charitable and service activities according to their interests and abilities.

Rotary is a great place to make new friends and enjoy a variety of social activities.  Spouses, partners and friends are warmly welcomed – Rotary is an open organisation, where all are on first name terms.  Our social calendar includes ‘Fifth Tuesday’ outings, evening events both formal and informal, short breaks at home and overseas, theatre and concert visits, and seasonal celebrations. Headingley Rotarians have been exploring the Dales for some years treading well-known paths and on occasion new previously unknown routes.  Our group walks most Fridays, leaving Leeds about 9.30am, walks about 4-6 miles, and finishes with a pub lunch at 1pm, back in Leeds by 3pm approx. Everyone is welcome.

The club has increased in membership from about 25 to 48 over the last 5 years.

All Rotarians may visit any other Rotary Club in the world, and many members do so. Equally, we gladly receive visitors from other clubs – local and international.
